Module 11
Complaints & Oversight
A complaint aimed at the right body, in the right words, moves things. Aimed at the wrong one, it costs you months.
Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)
Regulates: Solicitors and law firms
Serious misconduct — dishonesty, conflicts of interest, misuse of client money. For poor service or delay, go to the Legal Ombudsman after complaining to the firm first.
Complaints pageSocial Work England
Regulates: Registered social workers
Concerns about a named social worker's fitness to practise — dishonesty, serious failure to follow the MCA, or conduct that puts someone at risk. Not a route for disputing a decision.
Complaints pageJudicial Conduct Investigations Office (JCIO)
Regulates: Judges and magistrates
Personal misconduct only — rudeness, discriminatory remarks, falling asleep. The JCIO cannot change a decision; that is what an appeal is for.
Complaints pageLocal Government & Social Care Ombudsman (LGSCO)
Regulates: Councils and independent care providers in England
Maladministration causing injustice — delay in assessments, failure to provide a care package, poor complaint handling. Complete the council's own complaints process first.
Complaints pageParliamentary & Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO)
Regulates: The NHS in England and UK government departments
Unresolved NHS complaints, including hospital care, discharge and continuing healthcare. Complain to the trust or ICB first, then escalate.
